Description

What started as a simple project to regain some space at the bottom of the screen has turned into a full UI update. This mod simply adds some alpha channel data to most of the GUI elements for Titan Quest: Immortal Throne. (Click images to enlarge.)

Downloads

Main Files:

TransparentUI_V1.1.7z - Main installation file. Use this one if you do not use other mods.

TransparentUI_V1.1.DBRecords.7z - The .dbr files for manually merging into other mods.

Pre-Merged Databases (Removed due to being out of date):

Installation

If you just want to play the Main Quest:

  1. Ensure that a CustomMaps folder exists for your user name. This should be:
    My Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\CustomMaps
If the CustomMaps folder does not exist, create it now.
  2. Unpack the mod to this CustomMaps folder. Double check that you end up with
    [...]\CustomMaps\TransparentUI\Database
    and not anything like
    [...]\CustomMaps\TransparentUI_V1.1\TransparentUI\Database

If you are using another mod that has a pre-merged database file above:

  1. Follow the two steps above.
  2. Extract the appropriate archive from above to the mod's "database" folder. This will replace the existing .arz file.
  3. Copy InGameUI.arc and XPack.arc from
    [...]\CustomMaps\TransparentUI\Resources
    to
    [...]\CustomMaps\[Mod Name]\Resources
This should NOT replace any files.

If you are using another mod that has a complete install file above:

  1. Extract the archive to the mod's installation folder, replacing files when asked.

Usage

  1. Launch TQ:IT.
  2. Select "Play Custom Quest."
  3. If you do not already have a character for Custom mode, create one now. If you do, just select any existing character. Either way, the character you choose won't actually be used; it simply "boots up" the UI mod.
  4. Select "TransparentUI ~ trnsprnt.map" in the Map list and click "Start." You will see the black loading screen with the shield in the bottom right. After a short bit, it will go away, and you will be back at the Main Quest character select screen.
  5. Select your main character, click "Start," and enjoy!

Integration with other mods

This mod must update some records in the database in order to fix three things:

  1. The default size for empty skill slots is 40x40 instead of 32x32. See the following: bugged HUD vs. fixed HUD.
  2. By default, the Enchanter's Altar of Creation is visible behind the Altar of Separation.
  3. By default, the Caravan's Storage Area is visible behind the Transfer Area and the grids do not line up.

Because of this, integration with other mods requires at least a database import, and possibly .arc file merging. Below, you will find instructions on how to import the database entries. Also, see the downloads section for pre-merged databases for popular mods. Follow the instructions included with the pre-merged zip files to install them.

Steps to merge the DB

It is assumed that you have already installed both TransparentUI and the mod you wish to merge. Additionally, if you have not already installed the TQ:IT specific database templates, you will need those as well. For the sake of brevity below, whenever you see "\TQ:IT\" in folder names below, it refers to the following location: "My Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne".

  1. Create a "Working" folder for the existing mod. For example, if the mod is installed in
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries
you will need to create an empty folder at
    \TQ:IT\Working\CustomMaps\Masteries
  2. Download and extract TransparentUI_V1.1.DBRecords.7z into the folder you just created.
  3. Temporarily hide any resources by renaming the folder. For example, rename
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\Resources
    to
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\ResourcesHidden
  4. Start the TQ:IT ArtManager.
  5. On the menu bar, choose Mod -> Select -> Masteries (or whatever mod you are merging into).
  6. On the menu bar, choose Build -> Build. When you get a prompt asking "Do you wish to delete the unassociated record file:", click "No To All".
  7. Close the TQ:IT ArtManager.
  8. Delete the Resources and Records folders, then undo step 3. For example, first delete both of
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\Database\Records
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\Resources
    then rename
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\ResourcesHidden
    by removing "Hidden."
  9. Copy only the files InGameUI.arc and XPack.arc from
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\TransparentUI\Resources
    to
    \TQ:IT\CustomMaps\Masteries\Resources
  10. Run the merged mod like you normally would. The GUI will now be transparent, with all bugs fixed.
